Daily Training Sessions Available to our Pet Visitors
There are several ways we can work with your dog.
1. On leash Basic Obedience requires a 2-week (14 day) stay at Shady Mountain Pet Retreat. While here your dog will learn how to walk with you on a loose leash, sit and down stay, and come when called. Your dog will have loads of play time with other dogs affording him/her lots of exercise and fun activities.
We use positive reinforcement techniques, rewarding with high quality food treats or toys to facilitate a quick understanding of each exercise. Dogs look forward to their training sessions!
2. Off leash Obedience requires a 4-week (28 day) stay at Shady Mountain Pet Retreat. While here your dog will learn his Basic Obedience on leash and learn how to perform long distance stays and recalls as well as heeling off leash. Also, we’ll work on distraction proofing, behavior modification (changing those annoying behaviors such as jumping up, mouthing, destructive chewing, excessive barking). The 4-week stay is also the recommended time needed for house-training. This allows the dog to first learn the proper potty area and then to become consistent on going there.
3. Maintenance training. This is merely a daily training regimen to maintain all previous training, or to add to previous training. For example, your dog has already learned the basics and you want him/her to learn tricks, or to prepare for a specific level in the show ring. As these behaviors entail an ongoing learning process, there’s no set amount of time needed to accomplish them. Your dog will merely be worked with on your requests during his/her visit with us.
Once your dog has completed off leash work he/she can learn how to negotiate agility equipment, prepare for the show ring, go hiking on our many mountain trails, go on field trips to area pet shops and learn how to become a Studio Animal. Many of our students have starred in feature films, television programs and advertisements.
